WEEE (Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment) may be an amusing acronym but, as a piece of EU legislation, it makes electronic and electrical manufacturers responsible for their products at the end of life.
However, design consultancy The Brewery, realised that it presented a great creative and commercial opportunity for them. Products would need to be designed taking into account their total life-cycle – from creation to disposal, recycling and re-use.
They commissioned fellow communications consultant Sue Evans and me to research and write a white paper on the issue. Environmentally responsive design: making the case for consumer electronics considers the main industry and design issues, prompting a dialogue between The Brewery and potential clients.
